Lantern Walk Shade Canyon Playgroup

Today we will celebrate the changing season with a special Shade Canyon Playgroup Lantern Walk. Each year, Waldorf-inspired schools hold a Lantern Festival on an evening in early November. Families and students walk together through the dark, carrying lanterns and singing. 

We’ll hold our own modified version of a Lantern Festival today at our normal playgroup time, in the “dark” of the Peace & Plenty Farm barn.

WE WILL PROVIDE battery-operated tea light candles for the walk.

PLEASE BRING your child's lantern they made at the previous playgroup or make a simple tissue paper and glass jar lantern (here's a tutorial: https://www.badgerbalm.com/blogs/cultivating-good/diy-kids-craft-tissue-paper-lanterns). We will also have a few lanterns to share with those who need to borrow one.

During this time of year, as the days shorten and dark nights lengthen, the Lantern Walk reminds us that we each have a light inside we carry with us, no matter how dark it gets. Like other Waldorf festivals, this is a time of beauty and joy. We look forward to all the wonderful festivals we will share through the years once Shade Canyon School opens in September in 2023.
